As followers of this blog may remember, I wrote many of my first articles at the Café on Main, a wonderful establishment conveniently located across the courthouse in my home town. It was my office and my home away from home. That place closed some time ago.
Shortly thereafter, a new place called Ambrosia opened up at the same location and I was homeless no more!
Sadly, that place closed down and I was once again without a home, without an ‘office’ and without a place to park myself every day, collect my thoughts, do some paperwork, hobnob with friends and, most importantly, write.
Well this week, a new restaurant, The Bridgewater Café, opened at the same location across from the courthouse and I am happy to say that I am once again homeless no more!
This past Wednesday afternoon, my dear friend Danielle and I commandeered our usual table (i.e. my ‘office’) against the eastern wall just in front of the counter. It was like I’d never left.
Our initial impression of the place was good. It certainly was conducive to conversation. I confessed to Danielle that I finally broke down and watched the Twilight saga DVDs. Initially shocked (more like agog and aghast, really), she quickly rallied round, true friend that she is, and commiserated with me. What seemed like only a few coffees, Diet Cokes and green teas later, we realized that we were the last customers left and they were closing up the place for the evening.
The owner and chef, Randy Dupuis , just opened the place up the day before but Danielle and I could both already tell that I would feel right at home there just as I had before at Ambrosia and, before then, at the Café on Main.
In a while, when the place has had a chance to settle in, I’ll give you a fuller picture but for now I can rest assured that I have my table… my office… once more.
With any luck, I may even report on my ever-inspiring, ever-fascinating conversations with Danielle.
I am one happy guy!
