Lesson: Be acutely honest throughout your dealings with all people. Believe in justice, not from other people but from yourself. To the true Warrior, all points of view are deeply considered regarding honesty, justice and integrity
Meditation: Warriors make a full commitment to their decisions.
Musings: Be upright and moral. Conduct oneself with the utmost integrity no matter with whom you are dealing. All are equally deserving of your honesty and integrity, regardless of their standing or station in life. No one is so debased that they are unworthy of justice. No one is so exalted that they are above morality. The mighty shall not pervert nor shall the lowly sway you from these most basic and precious of values.
The text I use for the Lesson and Mediation come from the Bushido Seven page on the website of the Traditional Karate Centre in Wilmette, IL, USA. They own the copyright. The rest is compiled from my own meagre musings on the subject.
On the first Friday of each month, I hope to post another Samurai Value. Traditionally, there are seven bushido virtues in all, so if everything goes as planned, this will take us from June to December.
