Exhibit Two Gets Aished!  (Exhibit Two at Aish HaTorah in Jerusalem earlier this month) A bit of explanation is in order. Aish = Aish HaTorah. [1] Aish HaTorah is an apolitical network of Jewish educational centers in 35 branches on five continents. [2] Aish is all about Jewish education and kiruv… drawing Jews closer to [...]

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of spending Shabbes with my rebbe and mentor, R’ Michael Skobac [1] and his charming wife, Chashi. R’ Skobac is Master Po to my Grasshopper. (R’ Skobac and I SO don’t look like this!) Shabbes dinner featured a spelt/camut challah that was out of this world! He was kind [...]

This Wednesday night, March 7, marks the beginning of the Jewish festival of Purim, commemorating the events of the biblical Book of Esther in ancient Persia (now Iran). My beloved S.G. and I had the opportunity to spend Shabbes at the brand new (as of Rosh HaShana) Chabad House in St. Catharines. Formerly, Chabad was centred out of Niagara Falls, but the new location is much better on a lot of levels (bigger, closer to Brock University, closer to a larger Jewish population, [...]

Hot on the heels of the fabulous Bobover hasidic wedding I went to last month, I had the opportunity to attend, along with my beloved S.G., a bar mitzvah last weekend at the holy Congregation Chasedei Bobov in the Bathurst and Wilson area of The Heart of the Old World, in Toronto. It had been many years since [...]

Last week, vandals went into a Jewish cemetery on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Swastikas were scrawled on gravestones in Victoria’s historic Emanu-El Jewish Cemetery. The vandalism was reported Saturday night (Dec. 31/11) and occurred the same day because a caretaker had been there a day before. Rabbi Harry Brechner wrote an open letter calling on the vandals [...]
